The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

December 3, 2017 | 0 Comment

The holiday season is upon us again and I am incredibly excited about it. There are so many things that I love about this time of year, family, down-time, food, all day sports just to name a few.

The most important thing of all that the holiday season brings for me is the chance to spend time with family members I do not get to see throughout the year. It is an opportunity to reflect on the year and determine whether I accomplished what I set out to do at the beginning of the year. It is a time to indulge from food to gifts but also a time to think about those in our society who are not as fortunate as we are and to do what I can to share the holiday cheer with others.

I hope your holiday season is filled with family, love, good cheer and of course great food. I wish for you only the best in the New Year.

Finding Joy and Gratitude in our Crazy World

I try hard not to watch the news as there never seems to be anything positive that comes out of it.  Today, I woke up to the incredibly devastating news that came out of Las Vegas.  This on the tail of the hurricanes that have ravaged the east coast of the United States and the Caribbean Islands added one more negative thing to the news cycle.  The reality is that it we cannot avoid the news entirely, we eventually hear about the things that happen around us.  Sometimes it can appear that the world is a dark place.  We have to fight this all too common way of thinking and find a way to combat the negativity, we should try to find the positives that are present every day.

How do we do find the good in the world?  Here are a few ways:

  1. Look for the good in your life – there is always something positive that we can find in our life. We often take things for granted and forget to be thankful for the simple things that we never have to ask for such as running water, electricity, a bed to sleep on and so many other things.  Understanding that there are so many in the world that do not have the bare essentials should be a reminder to us that we are blessed beyond measure.
  1. Put things in perspective – even when things seem really dire, they may not be as bad as we think they are.  So often we think that we are facing the worst obstacles in the world until we hear about someone else’s suffering.  We are absolutely allowed some time to be upset about the circumstances but then we need to determine how to tackle the problem rather than dwell on it.
  1. Focus on what is within your control – lamenting about things we cannot control is an exercise in futility and can lead us to feel helpless. We all have a sphere of influence and it is in that sphere that we can make a difference.
  1. Keep Positive Company – we all have a that one friend who always seems to see the worst in any situation. Alternatively, there are other people in our life who can always see the light in the worst situations.  We should always look to spend more time with our positive friends especially during difficult times.  There is nothing more refreshing than someone pointing you to the light when all else is dark around you.

During this month of Thanksgiving, let us all try to focus on what is right in our lives, vow to have the proper perspective, control what we can and surround ourselves with the friends that keep it positive.  Even when everything seems desperate there is usually a different and more positive perspective.

Happy Thanksgiving

Mother’s Day

May 10, 2017 | 0 Comment

Mother’s Day will be celebrated this weekend in Canada and I am lucky enough that I get to celebrate it as a daughter and a mother.

For all the mothers out there, take time to celebrate yourself. Choose to be a little selfish because heaven knows you usually put yourself at the bottom of your own ‘To Do List’. Spoil yourself a little bit because everybody else always gets spoiled by you. Taking care of yourself allows you to be all that you are to everybody else.

To daughters everywhere, if you are lucky enough to share the day with your mother, make sure she understands how much you love and appreciate her, she will not always be around.

I found this amazing quote that I would like to share with all the mothers out there.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Change is in the Air

April 5, 2017 | 0 Comment

I found this beautiful quote that reminds me that every once in a while we all need to stop and evaluate to see if we are where we want to be in life.  Establishing goals is the key to monitoring your journey, because it is difficult to reach your destination if you don’t know where you are going. This does not mean that our goals are set in stone, sometimes our journey may be full of obstacles but it does not have to stop us from achieving what we want.  Evaluating our progress along the way allows us to ensure that we are still on the right path.  Although the author is unknown, I feel like he/she is speaking to me personally.  I hope that this spring you are able to clean up any clutter in your life and re-discover your goals.
